Two Summer Periods in Barcelona:
Comfortable vs. Hot and Humid
The Comfortable Summer: May, June, and Early July
This time of year is considered the most pleasant for exploring the city, enjoying photoshoots, and planning outdoor activities. Daytime temperatures are usually between +25°C and +30°C (77°F to 86°F), and evenings are noticeably cooler, especially by the sea.
Here’s what you should keep in mind during this period:
• The sun is already very strong. Even if the air temperature feels comfortable, the UV index is high. I recommend wearing SPF 50 sunscreen every day.
• It’s a good idea to wear hats or caps, light long-sleeved shirts, and long dresses. It might feel a bit warm at first, but you’ll avoid sunburn and feel better throughout the day.
• Plan your walks and activities for early mornings or after 5 PM, when the sun is less intense and the atmosphere becomes much more enjoyable.

The Hot and Humid Period:
Mid-July through Early September
This is when the real heat kicks in. The air becomes humid and heavy, with temperatures often rising above +30°C (86°F), and feeling even hotter due to the humidity—especially in August.
What you need to know during this time:
• It’s best to avoid long walks or city tours between 12 PM and 5 PM. This is the hottest time of day, and it can feel exhausting if you stay outside too long.
• Plan your day so you can take breaks in air-conditioned cafés, or stick to the shady sides of the streets.
• This is the perfect time to take advantage of Barcelona’s beaches during the day and leave your city walks and sightseeing for early mornings or late evenings.

Evenings in Barcelona During Summer
Evenings in Barcelona during summer are magical. After sunset, the air cools down, and the city becomes vibrant and full of life. You can comfortably walk around in a light summer dress or shirt all night long, and daylight lasts until 9 PM or later throughout most of the season.

Why My Photoshoots in Summer Are Scheduled in the Morning and Evening
As a photographer in Barcelona, I always plan photoshoots to make sure the experience is as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. That’s why:
• Morning sessions at sunrise are perfect: soft light, cooler temperatures, and no crowds. You get to enjoy the peace of the city and focus fully on the moment.
• Evening photoshoots are also an option, though I carefully select locations where it stays comfortable. We typically schedule these shoots closer to sunset, when the heat starts to drop.

What Else Should You Know About Summer in Barcelona?
Air conditioning isn’t always guaranteed. If you’re booking an apartment or hotel, double-check that they have AC. It’s absolutely essential in summer.
• Carry water with you. There are public fountains in the city, but it’s always better to have your own bottle.
• High UV levels are constant, even on cloudy days. SPF should be part of your daily routine, no exceptions.
• There are plenty of summer festivals and evening events happening all over the city. It’s a great time to head out in the evening when it’s cooler and enjoy the atmosphere.
I hope these tips help you enjoy your time in Barcelona this summer! And if you’re thinking about a photoshoot in Barcelona or want to capture your summer moments in the city or by the sea, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to help you plan the perfect time and location for your session.
