Family photoshoot is a memory.
When we are going to a photoshoot with the children, everybody wears nice clothes and prepares for it as if it were a holiday (this is really a holiday). As a family photographer in Barcelona with over 10 years of experience, I can recommend a few things about dressing for a family photoshoot. You can dress the family in completely different colors for a regular holiday — blue, red, yellow, and orange. But for a photoshoot, it is important to have a common style. This is because our eyes read a combination of 1 to 3 colors much better than a variety of colors at the same time.
What to wear for the family photoshoot in Barcelona?
✔ Combining color
Pick one combining color that would join the whole family together — e.g., red sneakers, scarf, etc. — it could be just one piece of clothing that has the same or similar color.
✔ One to three colors in clothes
Try to have no more than three colors in your photoshoot clothes. One style if you keep to an evening dress code; no reason to mix it with casual style like jeans. But if you’re wearing sweaters or t-shirts, jeans would fit best of all.
What clothes to avoid on a family photoshoot?
✖ Bright prints, excess colorfulness.
These are the things that do not fit well for this kind of photoshoot: clothes with an abundance of prints, big flowers on dresses, a lot of text, and prints on t-shirts. Small-sized flowers on a dress or partially decorated dresses are quite okay.
✖ Plaid or check clothes and thin striped clothes
Avoid clothes with plaid patterns or thin striped clothes — this will flicker in the eyes when looking at the photo.
✖ Combining different styles
Avoid combining different styles of clothes, for example, parents wearing smart casual while children wear sports clothes.
